Poet Sandra Alcosser to Read at UA

Award-winning poet Sandra Alcosser will share her work during an Oct. 9 event at the UA Poetry Center.
Pushcart Prize-winner Sandra Alcosser will be sharing selections of her poetry during an upcoming event.
The University of Arizona Poetry Center is hosting Alcosser during "The Language of Conversation," a poetry installation project that places poems in zoos to focus attention on the relationship between humans and animals.
The Oct. 9 event will be held at 8 p.m. at the Poetry Center, 1508 E. Helen St.
Alcosser, founder and director of the master's of fine arts program in creative writing at San Diego State University, has published seven books of poetry, including "A Fish to Feed All Hunger" and "Except by Nature."
She has received a National Poetry Series award, the Academy of American Poets James Laughlin Award and the Associated Writing Programs Award in Poetry.
Also among her achievements, Alcosser has received two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and was the endowment's first Conservation Poet for the Wildlife Conservation Society and Poets House, New York.
She also has been a writer-in-residence in Glacier National Park, Yosemite National Park and Central Park in New York City, and was Montana's first poet laureate and the recipient of the Merriam Award for Distinguished Contribution to Montana Literature.
The Poetry Center in the Helen S. Schaefer Building is located at North Vine Avenue, just north of East Speedway Boulevard. Parking in Zone 1 lots is free after 5 p.m. weekdays and all day on weekends.
