Cyberjunk Deliveries

Deliveries of electronic equipment for recycling began on July 27 and run through Aug. 1.

UA BookStores is partnering with Apple Inc. and UA Information Technology Services to provide an environmentally friendly, on-campus alternative to putting old electronics in the trash.

This week, the University of Arizona BookStores is the place to drop off old electronic equipment, such as computers, monitors, printers, televisions and VCRs.

UA BookStores is partnering with Apple Inc. and UA Information Technology Services to provide an environmentally friendly, on-campus alternative to putting old electronics in the trash. The week-long event, which runs through Aug. 1, is dubbed the Cyberjunk Collection.

The Cyberjunk Collection site is located on the north end of main UA BookStores at the Student Union Memorial Center.

UA BookStores will accept computers, monitors, fax machines, scanners, desktop-size copy machines, CD drives, hard drives, TVs, VCRs, projectors, networking equipment, cables and peripherals.

Anyone is welcome to drop off electronics for the Cyberjunk Collection, including people outside the UA community.

It will not accept products owned by the UA, contaminated or suspected of being contaminated with chemicals, biological agents or other substances not integral to the original new equipment.

Hazardous waste or batteries that are not an integral part of the system being recycled, UPS systems, cathode ray tubes that have been removed from their cases or cathode ray tubes that are cracked or broken also will not be accepted.

Individuals that bring electronic equipment to the Cyberjunk Collection will have the opportunity to register to win an 8 GB iPod Touch.

Recycling this type of electronic equipment benefits both the individual and the environment.

Many old computers contain toxic or hazardous elements – such as lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury – that can leak into the ground when the component is tossed into a landfill.

For individuals, their computers are recycled by Apple and hard drives are removed and destroyed to help prevent access to sensitive information.
