An information and recruitment reception will be held July 15th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in room 350 of the Modern Languages Building on the UA campus. The reception is open to anyone interested in the training and job opportunities at CyraCom.
Upon completion of the Medical Interpreter Training Institute, graduates will receive information on potential employment opportunities with CyraCom. The new collaboration represents a first step in an ongoing effort to broaden opportunities for interpreters working with both organizations.
The UA National Center for Interpretation is a renowned research and public service organization, which serves as the country's major repository for the theoretical and practical aspects of specialized interpretation.
CyraCom is a leading provider of innovative language solutions for healthcare including over-the-phone interpretation, video interpretation, translation and localization and assessment and training.
CyraCom's interpretation and translation solutions are exclusively endorsed by the American Hospital Association.
"The UA National Center and CyraCom are cooperating in the development of specialized curricula in an effort to provide local interpreters with the nation's most advanced and comprehensive training in the field of medical interpretation," said Jonathan Levy, curriculum specialist for CyraCom.
CyraCom provides language services to the health care, insurance and the financial industries, among others.
"Demographic shifts have become real for everyone with the onset of a globalized world market, making language services a necessity," Levy said.
In addition, Levy said legal mandates and the pursuit of accreditations are making hospitals and those who receive federal funding pursue higher efficiency and accuracy in translation services.
The UA National Center is responsible for the development and administration of the nation's benchmark programs in specialized interpreter testing and training: the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Exam and the Agnese Haury Institute for Interpretation. Both programs were developed by Roseann Gonzalez who co-founded the institute with assistance from visionary philanthropist Agnese Nelms Haury.
It also is the developer of the single most inclusive and comprehensive medical interpreter assessment tool in the nation – the Medical Interpreter Competency Examination, which is designed to assess the proficiency of medical interpreters.
"A partnership with CyraCom helps the center ensure the validity of our training, but also provides an excellent resource by providing job placement for some our students," said Armando Valles, assistant director of the UA National Center for Interpretation.
