Third Annual Multicultural Career Expo a Community Affair
All UA students are invited to visit with representatives from the 27 employers participating in the expo.
The University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Association is hosting its third annual Multicultural Community and Career Expo Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The expo takes place at the Student Union Memorial Center north ballroom.
"The Multicultural Community and Career Expo continues to grow each year and we estimate we will have 350 to 550 students attend this year, said Patsy Klein, chair of the expo. "Also, there continues to be interest from new companies participating in the expo for the first time. It adds to the expo's potential to continue growing and evolving."
All UA students are invited to network, seek employment and internships or pursue mentorship from the 27 employers that will be in attendance. In addition, respresentatives from several UA colleges and departments within UA Student Affairs will be on hand.
Humberto M. Stevens, president of the UA Hispanic Alumni Association, said the event follows the association's mission which states, "We do more than give scholarships – we launch careers."
"We wanted to create an all-inclusive event with a growing base of organizations, businesses and people who are supportive of our students – to help the students not just get through school but to help them succeed in life," Stevens said.
UA faculty and staff are welcome to attend the expo as well.
"In addition to the career and community component for students, UA administrators, faculty and staff can attend and learn about the various types of assistance available for students, such as tutoring to coaching, advising for scholarships and or continued graduate education. This second component of campus community is what distinguishes the expo from a general career fair. Working in collaboration with the UA Career Services office has assisted us in the merging of two types of events to create a unique, informative venue," Klein added.
The UA Hispanic Alumni Association hosts the expo in collaboration with UA Career Services and the Diversity Resource Office.
