Wildcats Lead Baseball, Volleyball Team to Victory

Former UA athletes Jason Donald and Kim Glass help their teams inch closer to Olympic gold.
After a slow start, the U.S. baseball team is on a roll. The Americans defeated Chinese Taipei, 4-2, in preliminary action to earn its third straight win. The U.S. moved to 4-2 in the Olympic tournament.
Shortstop Jason Donald, a former Wildcat, went 1-for-2 with a walk, stolen base and an RBI in the contest. Donald is hitting .385 in his five Olympic appearances.
The U.S. team will face Japan in the final preliminary game of the tournament.
Spectators at matches for the U.S. women’s volleyball team are getting their money’s worth. Each of the team’s last three matches has resulted in a 3-2 victory and each has lasted longer than two hours.
The most recent effort against Italy in the quarterfinals, another five set victory, placed the team into the semifinals. The University of Arizona’s Kim Glass tallied eight points to go with six kills in the win.
Next up for the U.S. in the semifinals is Cuba, which is the lone squad to defeat the Americans in this tournament.
