Regents Cut Universities' Budgets

The Phoenix biomedical campus and departmental returns are included in the $11 million paring at the UA.

The Arizona Board of Regents voted Friday morning to approve a package of budgets cuts for the state’s universities by $14.76 million, as well as nearly $1 million from ABOR’s central office.

The regents also agreed to pare the $10.5 million for the one-time appropriation for the design of a future biomedical campus building in Phoenix.

The University of Arizona’s total share of the reductions comes to just over $11 million, or roughly 2.5 percent of its budget. Funds returned from UA departments and spending delays in the UA central administration will cover $5.9 million in cuts.

The remaining $5.25M is half of the $10.5 million allocated for the schematic design of the UA College of Medicine - Phoenix, in partnership with Arizona State University. ASU will absorb the other half.

Overall, ASU’s total budget reductions come to $11.9 million. NAU’s is $2.2 million.
