Univision's 33 A Su Lado (At Your Side) to host telethon urging callers to find out what it takes to become a Wildcat.

Univision, the leading Spanish language media company in the U.S., will dedicate portions of its Arizona-based newscasts at 5 and 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, to promote The University of Arizona's Hispanic outreach efforts. The UA will get promotional airtime at other points throughout the evening, as well.

Univision and its 33 A Su Lado (33 On Your Side) programming is a community service opportunity in which the station provides portions of its broadcast time to programs or services of interest to the Hispanic community. The Thursday night event includes a telethon in which viewers throughout the state will be encouraged to call representatives from the UA. School officials will answer viewer questions about enrollment, admissions, financial aid, areas of study and retention programs.

The call-in phone number for the telethon is 520-621-3812, the number for the UA admissions office.

The Univision promotion began on Tues., March 25, and featured the UA’s Early Academic Outreach program, as well as minority recruitment efforts both in the U.S. and abroad.

On Wed., March 26, Univision featured interviews on UA retention efforts and with Joaquin Ruiz, dean of the UA College of Science.

Focusing on outstanding Hispanic students and their contributions at the UA, Univision also interviewed Melba Jaramillo, a UA doctoral candidate in cancer research, and her sister, Evelyn Jaramillo, a UA undergraduate who will graduate in May.
