Wisconsin Congressman David Obey to Appear at Book Signing
Rep. David Obey (D-Wis.) will discuss and sign copies of his book, “Raising Hell for Justice,” on Thursday, Feb. 21, at an event co-sponsored by the Morris K. Udall Foundation and The University of Arizona.
The book signing will be at 4 p.m. at the UA Bookstore in the Student Union Memorial Center, 1209 E. University Boulevard.
Obey has been in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly 40 years. In 2007, he became chair of the House Appropriations Committee.
“Dave Obey was not only a close friend of Mo Udall, but perhaps the member of the House whom Mo most admired,” said Terry Bracy, chair of the Udall Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “We feel deeply privileged that Congressman Obey is spending this time with us.”
"We are honored to host the chairman, a well-known champion of higher education and good friend to Mo Udall, a true friend to the University," said UA President Robert Shelton.
In “Raising Hell for Justice,” Obey looks back on his journey in politics, beginning with his early years in the Wisconsin legislature, when Wisconsin moved through eras of shifting balance between Republicans and Democrats.
On a national level, Obey traces, as few others have done, the dramatic changes in the workings of the U.S. Congress since his first election to the House in 1969. He discusses his own central role in the evolution of Congress and ethics reforms and his view of the recent Bush presidency – crucial chapters in our democracy, of interest to all who observe politics and modern American history.
