The Arizona Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Thomas Cockrell, will present a concert featuring works of two early 20th century composers, Claude Debussy and Jean Sibelius, and a contemporary work by UA faculty composer Roshanne Etezady.
Etezady's "Cereus," a colorful atmospheric work inspired by the Sonoran Desert flower that blooms for one night, will open the concert. Second on the program will be Claude Debussy's "Iberia" from "Images for Orchestra."
The Arizona Symphony, The University of Arizona's pre-professional orchestral ensemble, performs challenging concert programs and collaborates frequently with the UA Opera Theatre and School of Dance productions. Conductor Thomas Cockrell has served as the Nelson Riddle Endowed Chair in Music, director of orchestral activities and music director of the UA Opera Theater since 2000.
