SBS Honors Its Magellan Circle Scholars
2007-08 Magellan Scholars
The honor includes a $500 scholarship.
Twenty-four undergraduate students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Arizona have been named as Magellan Circle Scholars for 2007-2008. The honor, which incldues a $500 scholarship, is given to students who have exhibited financial need, academic excellence or both.
The Magellan Circle, which sponsors the scholarships, is a society for donors who contribute $1,000 a year or more to the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The money raised goes to the Dean’s Fund for Excellence, which supports faculty and student research and teaching, and research awards. Patrons of the students contribute an additional $500, which funds their scholarships.
“The Magellan Circle scholar program has more than doubled since its inception four years ago,” said Ed Donnerstein, dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. “Helping to support these students who are working so hard to do well in school and pay their tuition is one of the reasons we created the Magellan Circle. I congratulate these students and thank our Magellan Patrons for their generosity.”
The Magellan Circle Dinner is March 25, and will highlight the UA department of geography and regional development.
