Highland Market Now Open 24/7
Highland Market is often filled with students holding meetings, eating or just hanging out.
The UA's first on-campus grocery store is an open and welcoming spot for UA students and employees as well as community members.
Students asked for more hours, and they got them.
Highland Market, the first campus grocery store at The University of Arizona, will now be open every hour of every day beginning Jan. 28.
The Associated Students of The University of Arizona, the UA student governing body, conducted a survey and found students wanted extended hours at Union facilities, said David Galbraith, the UA dining services director.
The market used to close at 1 a.m., but the division opted to keep the market open around the clock to “better serve today’s student's lifestyle,” said Galbraith. The market will not have the extended hours during the spring and summer breaks when most students are not on campus.
On any given day, Highland Market is busy with people – students, faculty, staff and community members – meeting, studying or having a bite to eat.
The market, a cooperative operation between Arizona Student Unions and Residence Life, is located at East Sixth Street and North Highland Avenue at Highland Commons, a site where a number of UA offices and residence halls are located.
The market sells fruit, vegetables and both frozen and deli food items. It has a grill, rotisserie chicken, salad bar and a full-service coffee shop, and also sells health and beauty products.
“Highland Market is already a popular neighborhood gathering place for students,” said Dan Adams, associate vice president for student affairs and Arizona Student Unions director. “But having it open 24 hours a day now extends the opportunity to build community and offers unprecedented convenience for members of our campus.”
