The UA School of Music presents a guest recital featuring John Marcellus, trombone, with faculty artists Michael Dauphinais, piano; Moisés Paiewonsky, trombone; and the UA Trombone Ensemble. Marcellus will also present a trombone clinic.
The recital program will be quite varied, featuring some staple repertoire with a twist, several commissioned works, a transcription, and jazz – featuring works by Sulek, Brahms, Pryor, Davis and more. This concert is part of a west coast tour that Marcellus is presenting during his sabbatical from the Eastman School of Music.
Since 1978, Marcellus has been a member of the Eastman Brass and conductor of the Eastman Trombone Choir and Bionic Bones. He was appointed principal trombone of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra in 1979 and music director of the Brighton Symphony Orchestra in 1980. He is currently president of the Jamestown Musical Association, Local 134 of the American Federation of Musicians, and was recently elected vice president of the 20,000-member New York State Conference of Musicians, a Conference of the American Federation of Musicians.
