UA Appoints New Director of Corporate and Business Relations
Nancy Smith brings leadership experience from Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities
The University of Arizona has appointed Nancy Smith as director of corporate and business relations. She joins the leadership team in the UA’s Office of the Vice President for Research, Graduate Studies and Economic Development. At the UA, Smith will develop an integrated framework for strengthening ties between the University and the private sector.
Smith comes to the UA from Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, known as TREO, where she served as vice president of strategic services and spearheaded the development of TREO’s Economic Blueprint that was released last year.
In her position, Smith will serve as the primary point of entry for corporations and businesses interested in collaborating with the University. She is also responsible for developing research and educational partnerships and programs with corporations and businesses both within Arizona and beyond, coordinating the interface between the UA and business community and ensuring the integration of research and outreach activities that link the University and the community.
Smith is a UA alumna with strong ties to the University, including her membership on the advisory boards of the School of Music and the Arizona Center for Innovation. Smith has held senior executive positions in public and private international companies, and has developed strategic plans and product launch strategies for optics, aerospace, healthcare and bioscience companies.
“Important, long standing linkages between the University and the private sector already exist throughout the campus,” Smith said. “As we move forward, we must honor and fortify these relationships as we explore new ways to strengthen our ties to the community and beyond.”
