First Red Cross Blood Drive of the spring semester.
The Red Cross serves all hospitals in Tucson and its surrounding area. In a given week, a local hospital can have six open heart surgeries, a double valve replacement, an adult heart transplant and a baby in the NICU who need blood. A standard open heart surgery uses 5-10 pints of blood if there are no complications, and car accident victims can use 10-20 pints.
Of the entire population that can donate only 3 percent actually do, and 98 percent of the population will either need blood before they pass away or will have person close to them, such as spouse, parent or child, that will need blood in their lifetime.
Please consider giving blood. Register at http://www.givelife.org and enter sponsor code chealth.
