"The True Story of Cinderella" - A Comic Oratorio

"The True Story of Cinderella" is a humorous retelling of the classic fairy tale presented in an unstaged version by 12 singers, a narrator and a pianist. This version features the familiar characters of the prince, the fairy godmother, Cinderella and her stepmother and sisters, as well as the prince's parents, three odd hermits that give the prince advice and a herald.

The cast features UA graduate and undergraduate students, as well as faculty members, including John Brobeck as the narrator, Bruce Chamberlain as the herald, Lynnel Joy Jenkins as the queen and Elizabeth Schauer as the stepmother. Notable conductors of community choruses and church choirs in town are featured as well.

With a running time of approximately 45 minutes, the show is friendly for adult audience members and those as young as 11 or 12, but the oratorio format probably will not be enjoyable to children younger than this.
