Paul Richard Milliman, assistant professor of history, will give a talk titled "I'd Rather Be Hunting: Frederick II's De arte venandi cum avibus and the Art of Imperial Rule."
Milliman will discuss the 13th century illuminated manuscript containing the Latin text of "The Art of Falconry," which was written by Frederic II von Hohenstaufen, king of Italy, Germany and Burgundy. This unusual early text includes descriptions of 900 species of birds and contains about 500 miniatures.
