KUAT Becomes Arizona Public Media

KUAT Communications Group, an educational broadcast and production resource of The University of Arizona that includes radio and television stations, will become Arizona Public Media today.

The name change not only better reflects the organization's connection to the UA, but it also better encompasses media platforms that do not have the call letters KUAT, said Jack Gibson, the organization's general manager.

"Our organization currently offers six streams of television content and three streams of radio content in addition to our online and community outreach activities," Gibson said. "While we remain an editorially independent service of The University of Arizona, we will continue to provide stimulating content for the University community on the UA Channel."

To go along with the name change, Arizona Public Media will launch a new membership publication. Preview magazine, published every two months, will provide in-depth content about the organization's entire roster of programs from the Public Broadcasting Service, National Public Radio and additional sources. The magazine also will give readers an inside look at an ever-increasing number of local productions. The magazine will be sent to members, donors and underwriters. Starting in March, it will be printed in Tucson Lifestyle magazine, Arizona Public Media's publishing partner.

The organization also will introduce a completely redesigned Web site that will serve as a portal to the Web sites for all content streams. Up-to-the-minute TV and radio schedules, rich on-demand content, streaming audio, stories about Arizona Public Media productions and much more will be available at http://AZpublicmedia.org.
