Forty-Eight Arizona High Schoolers Explore Health Careers At UA's MEDCAMP in Tucson, July 24-26
Some of Arizona's most promising high school students will spend three days of their summer at the Arizona Health Sciences Center at The University of Arizona learning about health careers in medicine, nursing and pharmacy during the UA's 15th Annual MEDCAMP, beginning Tuesday, July 24.
During this free health careers camp, students are immersed in an intensive curriculum of study that includes tours, lectures, labs and hands-on activities. They visit University Medical Center's nurseries and operating rooms, learn a new technique for CPR developed by UA researchers, concoct an anti-itch lotion with a UA pharmacist, delve into the secrets of the central nervous system with an anatomist, and get the 911 from a trauma surgeon, forensic pathologist and a host of other medical specialists.
On the last day of camp, students shadow health professionals who work in their field of interest and observe what a typical day is like for them. Health professionals include surgeons, neurologists, pharmacists, hospitalists, radiologists, nurses and physical therapists.
MEDCAMP is open to Arizona high school students who have completed their sophomore year. Students are nominated by their school officials and submit an essay on their career interests.
